Oh man I certainly don't update this thing any more. This is what, only my third update in 2008, and the only one longer than a single sentence?

I'm just looking back at things and haha, it's my LJ entry from 4 years ago

I have a sneaking suspicion that next week things will end a little better. We early voted last week and I am taking Monday & Tuesday off of work to volunteer and help get out the vote.

So, assuming anybody actually reads this, be sure to go out and vote.

I am off to venture further east than Chicago for the first time since a trip to Disneyworld in the 2nd grade.

I hear this "East Coast" has many things I have only read about in myths and legends, such as roads you must pay money to drive on, major cities less than 200 miles apart, and states that don't require 5 hours to drive across.

Adventures in Chicago!

So, for those of you who may not have known, I spent the past weekend in Chicago as a part of the annual Pro Services Forum my company has. Basically everyone in my department (Pro Services) flies in to one location for a weekend of training and stuff since the department is spread around the globe.

I had an enjoyable time though it got pretty miserable near the end. Stay tuned over the next few days as I relate a day-by-day account of my wonderous adventures!

Thursday, January 19

I woke up at 6:00 and made it to the airport for my 8:30 flight. Things went smoothly and I made it into Minneapolis-St. Paul for a layover just long enough to eat lunch. After running across the entire airport ("Hey, this map says there's a Quizno's here. Oh wait, it's still under construction") I had some lunch.

Side rant: Screw you, states with sales tax. I got 29 cents in change exactly from my lunch and went to buy a Cinnabon which was listed as $3.29. After handing over a $5 bill and my pocket of change, I am told that it is in fact $3.50 and people are looking at me like I am stupid.

My second flight went okay, thankfully. Some of the employees who went through Denver got stuck on the runway for 4 and a half hours because the plane was rammed by a de-icer and the wing was damaged. I checked in to the Swanky hotel on Michigan Avenue which was indeed pretty fancy and waited down in the lobby. A group of us had a reservation at a nearby sushi place. However, since half of the group was still stuck in Denver, we went with just a few people. I had some really good sushi and some sake. At this point it was time for the welcome reception back at the hotel. I conversed with people and had a rum & coke that was about 75% rum D:

About this time, the rest of the group got in and decided they were going to go to the sushi restaurant anyways. I went back with them because the alternative was hanging out by myself and that's no fun. We all stayed past closing time and wandered outside to meet another group of people from the company. Some of them wanted to go to a nearby bar so they waved over 4 taxis. I got in the last taxi with 3 other people who had no idea where we were going. We told the taxi driver to "just follow the taxi in front of us" and she did - right through a red light. And with our luck there was a policeman nearby!

After the taxi was pulled over and the driver got her ticket, a cell phone call got us the name of the crazy-ass piano bar everyone was at. I stayed for a while and had a Guinness. The show was pretty entertaining and everybody got to sing along to Don't Stop Believin'. At around midnight I decided I was tired and walked the few blocks back to the hotel, and was only accosted by a single homeless person. I took a shower to get the disgusting bar smoke smell off of me and went to bed in anticipation of the 7:30 starting time in the morning. Meanwhile a bunch of people stayed out singing and drinking until 3:30.

I'll write up about the rest of the trip in the next few days.

So, I'm updating this from my hotel room in downtown Chicago.

I'm here along with the rest of my department on business and I'll go into details on everything when I get back Sunday.

But so far, I've walked around in a massive snowstorm, been in a taxi that was pulled over by police for running a red light, and eaten at a sushi bar twice!

Sadly, today was an 11-hour day of listening to presentations for work, so I had no time at all to do any sort of sightseeing/shopping. Doesn't look like I'll have much luck tomorrow, either.

Finish my last final, then come home for a few minutes and go to work a little later.

I would have thought finishing college would have a bit more fanfare to it. But hey, I don't mind - I'm done with school and that's perfectly fine for me.
